When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day, everyone is Irish in Savannah. Savannah is home to the second largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the US, and the Lowcountry also offers a number of incredible St. Patrick’s Day events and activities throughout the week in Savannah and on Tybee Island with official activities kicking off March 10.

St. Patrick’s Day Events in Savannah

Greening of the Fountain at Forsyth Park & Celtic Heritage Festival – March 10-11

St. Patrick’s Day kicks off with the greening of the Fountain at Forsyth Park. Watch as the fountain goes green! Dyed green water flows through the fountain and the mouths of statues until after the official St. Patrick’s Day Parade on the 17th. The event is marked by a special ceremony with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal. Following the greening of the fountain, the Celtic Heritage Festival includes the traditional Tug o’ War competition, procession with pipe drums, Legacy Irish Step Dancers, Children’s Activities, and much more.

Shamrocks and Shenanigans – March 11-19

The Plant Riverside District hosts a weeklong event that is totally free and open to the public. A variety of family friendly events will take place throughout the week including mini-golf, a kid’s craft corner, slapshot booth, St. Patrick’s Cookie Decorating, and lots of music from two stages.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade – March 17

This has been one of the most celebrated events of the year in Savannah since 1813. The parade draws nearly 400,000 visitors a year and features floats, cars, marching bands, performers, and the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. The parade starts at 10:15 AM and the best place to see it is in the Savannah squares. Be sure to arrive early as spots fill up quickly and it’s sure to be jam-packed.

Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade – March 11 2023

The annual Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade returns for its 20th year. This is a family-friendly, two-hour parade that goes from Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street. The parade includes marching bands, lots of music, bagpipes, floats, and more.
