Autumn is a perfect time of year for visiting Savannah, Georgia. The heat of summer is replaced by cool breezes, and the leaves turn into a captivating background of orange, red, and yellow. It’s the time of year when Southern hospitality is at its best, with many opportunities for things to do in Savannah.
Savannah is well known for our historic beauty, creative spirit, and haunted places. Our residents love to socialize, but one of the best things about Savannah is the food and wine. The Savannah Food & Wine Festival is a week-long celebration of culinary delights that runs from November 5 until November 11, and it should not be missed when you’re visiting Savannah.
The Savannah Food & Wine Festival is a celebration of Lowcountry cuisine and a way to experience a taste of real Southern cooking. This is a chance to enjoy the best locally sourced food and meet the hottest chefs and vintners in the business. The opportunities to try new dishes and wine are bountiful, and you will leave with a new appreciation for our traditional and bold flavors.
In Savannah, we strive to impress our visitors. Each day of the festival will bring an event that’s new and exciting. The week starts with a step into luxury at the Alida Hotel for Whisky on the Water. This event kicks off the festival right, giving guests the opportunity to taste the most excellent distilled spirits. Chat with brand ambassadors while learning new cocktail recipes, or just enjoy the waterfront view.
The following day, attend the Celebrity Chef Tour, hosted by the James Beard Foundation. The evening begins with a champagne reception, followed by a gourmet six-course dinner. The guest chefs have been hand-picked by the James Beard Foundation, and are the best chefs in the South. The event will include wine experts who have carefully created wine pairings for the enjoyment of the attendees.
Two of the most popular events are the Secret Savannah Speakeasy and the River Street Stroll. In Savannah, we take our history seriously and love to dress in period costumes – we think you’ll like it too. The Secret Savannah Speakeasy is a costumed event held at the Georgia State Railroad Museum. Join us in your best 1920’s gear as you sip designer cocktails. Later in the week, the River Street Stroll offers more opportunities for sampling local fare while enjoying the riverfront.
If you’re looking for things to do in Savannah, mark the date on the calendar and come to the Savannah Food & Wine Festival. We look forward to providing you with the best local food and spirits in the Lowcountry.
